Welcome to the Land of Sun and Dust

We left Taos yesterday and wound our way over lovely mountainous roads in Northern New Mexico. Our final destination was Santa Fe. As we were coming through the canyon near Embudo Station, we saw about 50 rafters floating along the river doing some white water rafting. We stopped the car and watched for a while as we were in no particular hurry. We dedcided to stop at Embudo and what greeted us, but a flock of pink plastic flamingos. Where else but in New Mexico (maybe Florida ;-)
After a leisurely drive between Santa Fe and Taos, we arrived at our home away from home, Las Brisas. We unpacked, and then went to the grocery store to stock up on a few supplies for the next couple of weeks.
At 7:00 p.m. we went to our friend's home near Las Campanas for a wonderful evening. We had a light supper on their patio overlooking the Sangre de Cristo mountains and then went inside to hear a presentation on The Confessions of Saint Augustine given by Max MeLean. He is the President of Fellowship of Performing Arts where Anne Vanberg Waldie, our hostess, has served on the board for the past seven years. Max is the narrator for the Listener's Bible and his solo performances of Mark's Gospel, Genesis and The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis have all been produced in the New York Theatre District. He has received critical acclaim in both the New York Times and the Wall Street Journal.
It was a wonderful presentation and there were about 20 of us in attendance. He presented Augustine's conversion story, as Augustine himself tells it in his Confessions. After the conversion of St. Paul on the road to Damascus, Augustine's Conversion is perhaps the most significant conversion story in Christian history. Max is a gifted storyteller and you felt as tough Augustine himself was speaking to you. It was a very moving performance and a wonderful evening.
Tonight we will go with the Waldies and the McLeans to Vanessi's for dinner and entertainment by Doug Montgomery. On Sunday nights, Vanessi's has mainly locals and a fun time is always had by all.
We're off to church and then lunch with our old friend, Patty. Looks like it's going to be another full day. More to come soon from the Land of Enchantment.

Pat I love this photo of the adobe. Looks like a painting coming out of this one in the future!

The Confessions of St. Augustine struck a chord with me. I had to write a report in college on The Confessions years ago when I was a youngster. I searched and found the first page of my report. Going to get rid of all my old college books and keep only all those awful reports I had to write on a typewriter!
Love to read your blogs.
