Croissants, Christmas and the Whole Enchilada

I will start by saying that we started our day out today by going to the Sage Bakehouse for coffee and having an almond criossant for breakfast. There are always groups of friends there visiting and talking about what they've been doing lately. One group who sat by us had just come from their Yoga class and were discussing where they'd been lately. Two were from England, had just returned, and were discussing how delicious both the Bangers and Mash were as well as the Bubble and Squeek. Another had just returned from Egypt while the last one in the foursome had been floating down the Amazon. Santa Fe is full of locals who now live here but travel world-wide constantly. A very eclectic and interesting community. The Sage Bakehouse is a favorite hangout for the local Santa Feans.
When you are in Santa Fe, it is manditory that you eat like a native New Mexican (which Frank is), so we have enchiladas at least once a day.
We've tried the enchiladas everywhere in town and our very favorite place is still a little hole-in- the-wall called Tia Sophia's which we think by FAR has the best chilie in town. We always order our enchiladas "Christmas" which means we want both red and green chilie. There's no meat, just 2 tortillas that are flat, not rolled, rat cheese, onions and homemade chlie with a side of Pinto beans and garnish on the top. You get a HUGE sopapilla to go with it and it's the best meal you'll ever eat. You just can't get food like this anywhere except Northern New Mexico because of the chilie. We even flew to Santa Fe for lunch years ago. Left Dallas at 8:00 in the morning, arrived in Albuquerque, rented a car, drove to Santa Fe, had our chilie fix for lunch and then flew home that night. Do you think we're chilie addicts or what???
We attended the private preview of the Santa Fe Summer Show which is a showing and sale of antiques from the 17th to the 21st century from all over the world. It opened to the public today and it is a great show. They served wonderful hors d'ouerve and very good wine. Lots of magnificent jewelry and exceptional pieces of art for sale, not to mention furniture and accent pieces. They even had an El Greco there that was an extraordinary find. The price was $275,000 so we thought we'd pass on that one :-)
We have friends coming over for cocktails in about an hour so I'd better get dressed. We will go to dinner afterward and hopefully home fairly early. Tomorrow looks like a fairly un-busy day until a dinner engagement, so maybe I can take a power nap after we do a few galleries. I'll write more later.

Christmas in July ... sounds delicious! It's been a few years since I've been to Santa Fe so I'm really enjoying YOUR journey!

Wouldn't it be neat if Canvas by Canvas ultimately ended up in a gallery out there.
