NECESSARY INTERRUPTIONS

This will be an interruption in the middle of my Baltic Blog to tell you what has been going on with the house.

As I mentioned in an entry last June, we had a lot of water damage from leaky valves in a bathroom and also damage to our kitchen windows due to trouble with the sprinkler system. To be more specific, they had to almost rebuild Frank's bathroom and also had to take the windows out in our kitchen. That was no easy fete since the entire back wall of the kitchen is glass.

Now ... let me tell you ... these people were miracle workers. They completely built a new door, frame and all the cabinets in Frank's bathroom in one day including painting them!

I couldn't believe it. The valves in the shower had been leaking for goodness knows how long, so they had to tear out several walls to get to then and then replace them, and that was also accomplished in one day. These people are unbelievable! They even cleaned up after themselves.
Then the next day, the floor people came and replaced the tile floor in that bathroom.

They did have to return the next day to out the grouting in and re-set the toilet but they are fast and efficient as well.

Now on to the kitchen report.

They took out all of the glass, which was no easy job since each pane weighed over 100 pounds,

and very carefully laid it outside as they started the reconstruction work.

They replaced the present wooden beams that were holding the glass panes in,

put the original windows back in and then sealed them off, re-caulked them, trimmed them out,

stained the wood and finished painting.

They did all of this in ONE DAY!!! They didn't even make a mess. I couldn't and still can't believe it.

Most of the work they did was done outside, so there was no mess inside ... plus ... they had a vacuum handy to clean up the minute anything for on the floors!
They are coming back today to replace all of the wood floors in the kitchen and dining room since they can no longer match the wood that is there now.

I have no idea how long that will take.

The next big step will be to replace the roof due to hail damage we had in the spring and when they finish that, we'll have the exterior of the house painted and it will look like a brand new place.
Anyway, this is what I've been doing with my time and also trying to find the time to blog in between dodging workmen and a bad cold.
We will be going to the hospital to start working out again this morning and I think things will be back to normal at our household before too long. Have a good mid-week and don't forget to fly your flag tomorrow in memory of those who lost their lives on 9/11 in 2001.

XOXO, Pcasso
